Making your default page layout to A4 in OpenOffice.org 3.1

By

I have been using linux for quite a while now, as an operating system it is quite powerful. The experience of linux comes with challenges to make things work the way we want it to, or the way we are used to, especially coming from using Microsoft's products.

One particular product is OpenOffice.org suite, which is an office suite commonly found in most linux distributions, although there is a Windows version of it too.

In OpenOffice.org, the word processor (Writer) has a default page layout set to Letter, these settings to me were not quite suitable because I was used to using A4 layout. So I had to change the page layout every time I used Writer.

Recently I found a way to set the default page layout to A4 format. Here's how on Ubuntu 9.04, 8.10, 8.04:

open Writer

open Writer

Step 1:

Click on Menu > Office > OpenOffice.org Word Processor

click page
click page

Step 2:

Go to Format > Page

select A4
select A4

Step 3:

Click on the format menu in the Page tab, scroll down and select A4. Click Ok.

Click Save
Click Save

Step 4:

Go to File menu, then click on Templates and select Save. Write a template name and Click Ok.

set your template as the default
set your template as the default

Step 5:

Go to File menu, then click on Templates then click Organize. In the window, select My Templates then click the name of the template you saved in Step 4, then select Command and Click on Set As Default Template then close the window.

thanks, it saves me a lot of work re-formatting the page every time I create new document.
